The bread of life satisfies our hunger and thirst. We walk with Jesus through Lent as pilgrims on a journey.
R: Come with empty pockets and open hands!
The Bread of life loves us and knows our needs.
Let us gather from all walks of life, celebrating in unity our common needs and singular purpose. The bread of life has come to sustain us. Believing this promise, let us pray together and celebrate Jesus wonderful transfiguration.

Juanita: We gather in the sacred presence of the + Holy One who is known by so many names and images including our + Creator and Divine Parent, Jesus our Beloved Brother and Holy Spirit - Sophia, in this trinity of Divine Love we place ourselves now. Amen.
Penny: May the scriptures we read today become living bread.
May your spirit empower them to shape us in Jesus’ likeness.
Give us wisdom as we interpret these words of scripture; may they nourish our minds and souls.
Gina: We pause for a moment to remember those times that we have not lived as the Beloved Community God calls us into which is service to others:
Penitential Rite: Juanita:
Help us to open our hearts to all who are hungry for the goodness of life.
R: Jesus help us to open our hearts to Your love.
Jesus the Christ, when we tolerate injustice and the absence of wisdom,
R: Help us to speak out for what is right and just.
We pray for all who experience physical hunger, those without access to nourishment, and those whose daily bread is uncertain. May we, be your hands and feet, work to provide for the hungry. Help us offer not only bread for the body but also love and justice that fills the soul.”
R: Jesus help us to seek Your Wisdom.
Opening Prayer:
Juanita: Jesus as we venture more deeply into this Lenten season send your Spirit into our hearts that we might remain faithful to your word and your way of life. May this Lent be an experience of transfiguration for us. Illuminate our spirits that we may rediscover the sense of the sacred within ourselves. May that sacredness enable us to see beyond our own needs, wants, and interests so that we may set about to transfigure our lives and the world in your compassion, justice, and forgiveness.
A Reading from the Book of Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18 Barbara
God led Abram outside and said: “Look up at the sky and count the stars, if you can.” God then said, Just as the stars of the heavens, so will your descendants be.” Abram trusted in the Most high, who credited it to Abram as an act of righteousness. God then said to Abram, “I am the Most high God who brought you from Ur to give you this land as a possession.” Abram asked, How am I to know that I will possess it? God answered Abram, Bring me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtle dove and a young pigeon.” Abram brought all of these, split them in two, and placed each half opposite each other; but the birds he did not cut up. Birds of prey swopped down on the carcasses, but Abram stayed with them. As the sun was about to set, trance fell upon Abram, and a deep terrifying dark enveloped him. When the sun had set and it was dark, there appeared a smoking brazier and a flaming torch, which passed between those pieces. It was that occasion that the Most High made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your descendants, I give this land from the Wadi of Egypt to the Great River (Euphrates.)
The Word of God R: Thanks be to God
A reading from Women in the Bible and Christian Tradition by Bridget Mary Meehan: Cathy W.
Before returning to El Salvador, Jean Donovan visited her parents, met her friend, Doug, and attended a friend's wedding in Ireland. Throughout this period, Doug, Father Crowley, and others tried to persuade Jean not to return to El Salvador. When she visited the Maryknoll Center in Ossining, her friends and colleagues there offered the same advice: Don't return. Yet Jean insisted that she had to return to El Salvador, because she had promised the children that she would come back to them. Before leaving, Jean prayed for several hours in the Maryknoll chapel, emerging with a renewed sense of tranquility. Before returning to El Salvador, Jean vacationed with her parents in Florida. She hoped that God would protect her from being tortured, but she was willing to give her life. Her mother described her daughter during their visit: "She was the old Jeannie-happy." When Jean returned to El Salvador, she was peaceful and enthusiastic about her mission work.” In the weeks before her death, Jean and the others busied themselves with providing transportation and supplies for the refugee center at Chalatenango. Although they knew they were in danger and that there had been death threats, they believed that being U.S. citizens would protect them from danger. On the afternoon of December 2, Jean and Dorothy Kazel drove to the airport to pick up their colleagues, Maura Clarke and Ita Ford, who were returning from a conference in Nicaragua. By the time the four women left the airport, it was already dark for the five-mile drive home. They did not make it home-and were never heard from again. On December 4, their bodies were discovered in a shallow ditch.
With open hearts, we affirm these words by saying: Amen

R: and also, with you.
A reading from the Holy Scripture According to Luke 9: 28-36
Jesus took Peter, John, and James, and went up onto the mountain to pray. While Jesus was praying, his face changed in appearance as well as the clothes he wore, which came dazzling white. Suddenly two people were talking with Jesus —- Moses and Elijah. They appeared in glory and spoke of the passage which Jesus was about to fulfill in Jerusalem. Peter and the others had already fallen asleep; but awakening, they saw Jesus’ glory and likewise saw the two people who were standing near the Anointed One. When these were leaving, Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, how good it is for us to be here. Let us set up three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” (Peter did not really know what he was saying.) While Peter was speaking, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and the disciples grew fearful as the others entered it. Then from the cloud came a voice which said, “This is my own, my Chosen One. Listen!” When the voice fell silent, Jesus was there alone. The disciples kept quiet, telling nothing of what they had seen at the time to anyone.
The Good News of Salvation! R: Glory and praise to our Savior Jesus the Christ!
Statement of Faith Cathy P.
We believe the kin-dom of God is like baker’s yeast,
thorough and unstoppable, spreading and rising over time.
We believe the bread of life is enough for all creation,
enough for the hungry, the weak, and the poor.
We believe Jesus is the bread of life,
broken and shared with all who will receive it.
We believe the bread of life cannot be limited to our finite imaginations.
The bread of life is making all things new. Amen.
Homily: Juanita
Prayers for the Community Madonna
As we prepare for the sacred meal, we are aware that just as Jesus is anointed, so is each of us. We bring to this table our blessings, cares and concerns. Please feel free to voice your prayers beginning with the words “I bring to the table….”
We pray for these and all unspoken concerns. Amen.

Lucia:
Gracious God, we praise and proclaim Your wonder. From of old, you have created us. From before our birth, You have held us in Your heart - each one of us, special and unique to You. You call us each by name and say that we are good. You call and set us free. You form us each anew in the image of Jesus, Your Beloved One. We sing your praise with all the angels and saints.

We thank you for Jesus, simple servant, lifting up the lowly, revealing you as God-With-Us, and revealing us as one with you and all of creation.
Please extend your hands in blessing over your bread and wine.
We are grateful for your Spirit at our Eucharistic Table and for this bread and wine which reminds us of our call to be the body of Christ in the world.
Together, we call on Your Spirit, present in these gifts - bread that satisfies our hunger and wine that quenches our thirst – to make us more deeply One, living in the fullness of holy compassion and Sophia Wisdom, that they may become for us the Body +and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ at whose command we celebrate this Eucharist, these mysteries.
Juanita: On the night when Jesus was gathered with his friends at the Passover meal, he took the bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them saying:
Community: Take this, all of you and eat it,
For this is my Body which is given up for you, for you are wonderfully made.
When the supper was finished Jesus picked up the cup, blessed it then gave it to his friends as he is giving himself to each of us this afternoon saying…
Community: Take this all of you and drink from it, for this is the cup of my Blood. The cup of the everlasting covenant, Do this is memory of me.
Gina: Let us proclaim the mystery of our faith.
R: Save us, Savior of the world, for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free.
Juanita: We celebrate the memory of Jesus’ death and resurrection. We embrace the possibility of reconciliation, justice and peace.
Holy God, here at this table, we have encountered Jesus’ Spirit,
bringing us wholeness so we might be satisfied by the bread of life.
Because Jesus faced death and emerged victorious, this bread does not spoil; this cup never runs dry. As we leave this place of celebration, our spirits are renewed and rejuvenated. There is enough for each of us.
Lee: May Wisdom Sophia bless our Church as a sign of unity and an instrument of your peace among all people and may She unite us with Francis, our pope, Oscar, Bridget Mary our bishops, that we may work together to promote peace, justice and reconciliation among all people.
We now pray with all our deceased sisters and brothers.
(Feel free to mention a dear one who has passed away either out loud or in the silence of your heart.)
Lucia: May these and all who sleep in Christ find in your presence light, happiness, and peace.
Therefore, we will share this joy and love with others.
Amen.
John: Just as you gather us at this table, so also bring us together with the most Holy Mary, Mother of God, with your blessed apostles and all the saints on whose constant intercession we rely for unfailing help and with our sisters and brothers of every race and faith who have died in your friendship. May we be with them in a new heaven and a new Earth, where the fullness of your love and peace will dwell forever in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Everyone lift up your bread and wine as we pray…
Penny: Through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours Almighty God for ever and ever. Amen
R: Let us pray the Celtic Version of the Lord's prayer written by (John Phillip Newell)
Gina: Holy One Beyond all names, Eternal Wellspring, may love rise again in
today. With food for every table, shelter for every family and reverence
for every life. Forgive us our failings in love and free us from all falseness, that the light of our soul may shine, and the strength of our spirits endure.
For the Earth and all its people this day, tonight, and forever. Amen
What we have heard with our ears, we will live with our lives; as we share communion, we will become communion, both Love’s nourishment and Love’s challenge. Let us share this bread and cup to pray and live the justice and peace of Jesus.
R: Jesus say only the word and we shall be healed.
Juanita: Let us all receive Jesus together as we are the Body and Blood of Christ.

Prayer After Communion:
Go now into the world brimming with love for God and others.
May you share the bread of life,
offering not only what sustains the body but what nourishes the soul. Live your lives serving in the way of Jesus,
extending compassion to the weary,
hope to the despairing,
and bread to the hungry.
As you go, may the love of God enfold you,
the peace of Christ guide you,
and the power of the Holy Spirit sustain you,
now and forever.
Amen.
Closing Blessing: Please raise your hands in blessing and join together in our closing prayer:
Juanita:
Help us Jesus to go down from the mountain with you and accompany you on your way to the cross, that we too might confront and resist systemic injustices with your loving nonviolence, that we too might accept suffering with love and forgiveness and not a trace of revenge or retaliation in a struggle for justice, we too might enter the new life of resurrection.
