Let us begin our celebration together in the name of our Creator, our brother Jesus, and Wisdom Sophia. R] Amen

Gratitude:

John: We thank you, Gracious God, for calling us in our time to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. R] Please give us ears to hear your call.

John: You have given us the opportunity to escape the burdens of hatred and oppression.  . R] Please give us the courage to follow the way to liberation

John: You call us to be the change we hope for in our world. . R] Give us hearts to love as You love.

Opening Prayer Kathy N

Gracious God, guide us on our journeys as we follow Jesus. Be the star by which we navigate our small boats. Be with us as we celebrate our community with all your people. Help us seek out the lost and forgotten and guide them safely home. Guide our hands as we cast our small nets into the vast waters, that we may realize a bounty of hope and grace as we fish the rough seas of our lives.  R] Amen

A reading from the prophet Isaiah     Barbara

“But there will be no more gloom for the land that was in anguish! In the past God humbled the land of Zebulun, the land of Naphtali; but in the future God will bring glory.

The people walking in darkness are seeing a brilliant light—

upon those who dwell in a land of deep shadows

light is shining!  God, you have made the nation greater—

you have brought them abundant joy! They celebrate in your presence as with the harvest celebrations, or as warriors celebrate when dividing spoils.

For the yoke that burdened them, the weight on their shoulders,

the rod of their oppressors — you have shattered it, as you did at the defeat of Midian.

The Word of God. R] Thanks be to God

Our second reading today is taken from the first letter to the Corinthians   Dave

I beg you, sisters and brothers, in the name of our Savior Jesus Christ, to agree in your message. Let there be no factions; rather, be united in mind and judgment. I have been informed, my sisters and brothers, by certain members of Chloe’s household, that you are quarreling among yourselves. What I mean is, one of you is saying, “I belong to Paul,” another, “I belong to Apollos,” still another, “I belong to Cephas,” still another, “I belong to Christ.” The point is, Christ didn’t send me to baptize but to preach the Gospel.

The Word of God. R] Thanks be to God

A reading from the holy Gospel attributed to Matthew  Penny

When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he went back to Galilee. He left Nazareth and settled in Capernaum, a lakeside town near the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali. In this way the prophecy of Isaiah was fulfilled: “Land of Zebulun, land of Naphtali, the way to the sea on the far side of the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles: the people who lived in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”

From that time on, Jesus began proclaiming the message, “Change your hearts and minds, for the kindom of heaven is at hand!”  As Jesus was walking along the sea of Galilee, he watched two brothers—Simon, who was called Peter, and Andrew— casting a net into the sea. they fished by trade. Jesus said to them, “Come follow me, and I will make you fishers of humankind.” They immediately abandoned their nets and began to follow Jesus.

Jesus walked along further and caught sight of a second pair of brothers—James and John, ben-Zebedee. They too were in their boat, mending their nets with their father. Jesus called them, and immediately they abandoned both boat and father to follow him.  Jesus traveled throughout Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, proclaiming the Good News of the kindom of heaven and healing all kinds of diseases and sicknesses among the people.

The good news of Jesus, the Christ. R Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ

 Statement of Faith Pat

We believe in the Holy One, a divine mystery
beyond all definition and rational understanding,
the heart of all that has ever existed,
that exists now, or that ever will exist.

We believe in Jesus, messenger of the Divine Word,
bringer of healing, heart of Divine compassion,
bright star in the firmament of the
prophets, mystics, and saints.

We believe that We are called to follow Jesus
as a vehicle of divine love,
a source of wisdom and truth,
and an instrument of peace in the world.

We believe in the Spirit of the Holy One,
the life that is our innermost life,
the breath moving in our being,
the depth living in each of us.

We believe that the Divine kin-dom is here and now,
stretched out all around us for those
with eyes to see it, hearts to receive it,
and hands to make it happen.

Juanita: Jesus the Christ, you said to your disciples, “My peace I leave you. My peace I give you.” We ask you to look on the faith of those gathered here. Give us your peace, and spread your peace throughout the world, always and forever.

May the peace of Christ be always with you. R] And also with you

Introduction to petitions

Linda: With great faith in God’s great desire to work with us in the building of God’s reign on Earth we bring our prayers: For what or whom shall we pray?

Conclusion of petitions

Linda: Most loving God, please hear and answer the prayers we have brought before you, as well as those which remain in our hearts, unspoken. We also pray for those who have no one else to pray for them, and we do this in Jesus’ name.  R] Amen

Offering of Gifts

Margaret: Blessed are you, God of all creation! Through your goodness we have this bread to offer. Fruit of the Earth, work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life.

R] Blessed be God forever

Gina: Blessed are you, God of all creation! Through your goodness we have this wine to offer. Fruit of the vine, work of human hands, it will become for us the cup of life.

 R] Blessed be God forever

Juanita: Pray sisters and brothers that our gifts please our loving God.

R] May God accept this offering from our hands for the praise and glory of God’s name, for our Good and the good of all God’s holy people.

Eucharistic Prayer

John: Holy One, you have been called by many names by many people in the centuries of our planet’s life. Yet, no name truly defines you or describes you.  We celebrate you as the marvelous, loving energy of life who caused us and our world to be. We celebrate you as the Source of light and life and love, and we celebrate your presence and all-ways care.

Nick: We stand at a critical moment in Earth’s history – a time when humanity must choose its future.

As the world becomes increasingly interdependent and fragile, the future holds both peril and great promise.

Karla: May we recognize that, amid a magnificent diversity of cultures and life forms, we are one human family and one Earth community with a common destiny.

United with our vast universe, with our Mothe - Planet and her people everywhere, with one another and You, Holy One, our spirits dance and sing this song of praise:

Holy Holy, Holy

Eucharistic prayer

Janet We give grateful thanks for those who came before us, for all those who gave from their hearts, who gave from their lives, that there might be a better world, a safer world, a kinder world, we pray for peace in their name.

Galen And for the children, that they may live and have children of their own and that it will go on - this great blossoming that is meant to go on and on – we pray for peace, in their name.

Judy:  And for all peoples of this earth who have no voice in this,

For the animals that have no voice in this,

For the plants, the trees, the flowers that have no voice in this,

For all who share this earth with us, we pray for peace in their name.

Patti: We thank you for our brother, Jesus. He showed us so simply, so tenderly, how the world is in our hands. He had nothing in this world but your love, companions on the journey, and his very self. Together, that was more than enough, and that remains our clarity in the midst of confusion: the miracle of healing, new hope, nurturance, nourishment, liberation and life.

Jay Cee: Your Spirit is here in us and in the gifts of this Eucharistic table. May we become gifts of wisdom, light and truth which remind us of our call to be the body of Christ to the world.

Nick: We are grateful for your Spirit at our table and for this bread and wine which remind us of our call to be the body of Christ in the world. Come Holy Spirit. Be intensified in these our gifts of bread and wine, so they may become for us and for the entire world the Body and Blood of Jesus the Christ.

Pat: On the night before he faced his own death and for the sake of living fully, Jesus sat at the supper with his companions and friends.  He reminded them of all that he taught them, and to fix that memory clearly within them, he bent down and washed their feet.

Lifting the plate:

Penny: When he returned to his place at the table, he lifted the bread, spoke the blessing, broke the bread and offered it to them saying:

All: Take and eat; go and share my love with one another.

Lifting the cup:

Penny: He then raised high the cup of the covenant, spoke the grace, and offered it to them saying:

All: Take and drink, this is the cup of the new covenant.

Whenever you remember me like this, I am among you.

Cathy W: Loving Source of All, we have looked for others to save us and to save our world. Yet, we are called, and consecrated and sent into the world to establish justice and show the blessed fulfillment that comes with simplicity and the giving of ourselves in love.  We will make new our commitment to the harmony of the original vision of creation.

Like Jesus, in all openness, we will be filled with your own Spirit and renew the face of the earth. For it is through learning to live as he lived,

And why he lived,

And for whom he lived,

That we awaken to your Spirit within,

Moving us to love and care for one another and all creation,

At this time and in all ways.

R] For this we say Yes to You!

Margaret: What we have heard with our ears, we will live with our lives,

As we share communion, we will become communion

Both Love’s nourishment and Love’s challenge

Let us pray the prayer of Jesus:

Kathy N:  O Holy One, who is within, around and among us, we celebrate your many names. Your Wisdom come, Your will be done, unfolding from the depths within us. Each day you give us all we need; You remind us of our limits, and we let go.  You support us in our power, and we act with courage. For you are the dwelling place within us, the empowerment around us, and the celebration among us, now and forever.  Amen

Please raise your hands in blessing:

Penny: May wonder and thanksgiving fill us, may compassion penetrate us, that we may penetrate the numbness that continues our society’s injustices. May we know that we are loved.

May we continue to be the face of the Holy One to each other and may we be a blessing in our time!  Amen.

Dismissal:  Margaret
