Christ, Be Our Light” – Bernadette Farrell
https://youtu.be/qibAAo0JiEQ?si=W_q34Gk3uQTOAcB_
Welcome, everyone:
Today we gather around Jesus’ words from Matthew’s Gospel, where he calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world. As we pray together, may we reflect on how our lives—through compassion, justice, and love—can bring flavor to a weary world and light to places of darkness. Let us open our hearts to be renewed and sent forth as signs of God’s hope among us.
Presider: In the name of God our Creator source of all being, our brother Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
R: Amen
Gratitude Rite:
Presider: As members of your body, O Loving God, we are uniquely and wonderfully made.
All: May Your light be with us.
Presider: Help us never to fail to honor the respect and care with which you have created every human being.
All: Christ be with us.
Presider: Help us endeavor all our lives to grow in honor, respect, reverence, and expansive, inclusive love for one another and all your creatures on earth.
All: May Your light be with us.
Presider:
O, God, whose glory it is to be merciful, may your Love take root in us and bring forth an openness of heart
in all our words and deeds. R: Amen
Opening Prayer: Let Us Pray
Presider: Loving God, make us salt for the earth, that, in our own humble, hidden acts of generosity and peace we may reveal your love in the midst of us all; make us your light for the world that we may reflect your compassion and forgiveness, the light and warmth of your love in the midst of cold, dark winter; make us your city on the hill, the vision of your dream of a world united in your justice and mercy.
A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah. 58: 7-10 Cathy P.
Share your bread with those who are hungry, and shelter homeless poor people; clothe those you see naked,
and do not hide from the needs of your own flesh and blood.
Then your light will shine like the dawn and your wound will be quickly healed over.
Your integrity will go before you and the glory of Your God behind you.
Cry, and God will answer;
call, and God will say, "I am here" —
provided you remove from your midst oppression, finger-pointing, and vicious rumors.
If you bestow your bread on the hungry and satisfy the afflicted, then light will rise for you in the darkness, and the gloom will become for you like midday.
The Word of God. R. Thanks be to God.
Psalm 112
Response: For the Upright, Our God shines like a lamp in the dark (All)
For the upright, Our God shines like a lamp in the dark, God is merciful, tenderhearted, virtuous. Interest is not charged by these good people; they are honest in all their dealings. All:
Steadfast in heart they overcome their fears; in the end they will triumph over their enemies. Quick to be generous, they give to the poor, their righteousness can never change, people such as this will always be honored. All:
A reading from the first letter of Paul to the 1 Corinthians. 2: 1-5 Chrys
As for myself, when I came to you I did not come proclaiming God's testimony with any particular eloquence or "wisdom." No, I determined that while I was with you, I would know nothing but Jesus Christ - Christ crucified. When I came among you it was in weakness and fear, and with much trepidation. My message and my preaching had none of the persuasive force of "wise" argumentation, but the convincing power of the Spirit. As a consequence, your faith rests not on human wisdom but on the power of God.
The Word of God. R. Thanks be to God.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. 5: 13-16 Nick
Jesus said to the disciples, "You are the salt of the earth. But what if salt goes flat? How can you restore its flavor? Then it is good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
"You are the light of the world. You don't build a city on a hill, then try to hide it, do you?
You don't light a lamp, then put it under a bushel basket, do you? No, you set it on a stand, where it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, your light must shine before others so that they may see your good acts and give praise to your Abba God in heaven."
The Good News of Salvation!
R. Glory and praise to our Savior Jesus Christ!
Homily: Nick
Statement of Faith: Marita and Gerry alternate
We believe in the Holy One, a divine mystery beyond all definition and rational understanding,
the heart of all that has ever existed,
that exists now, or that ever will exist.
We believe in Jesus, messenger of the Divine Word, bringer of healing, heart of Divine compassion, bright star in the firmament of the Holy One's
prophets, mystics, and saints.
We believe that We are called to follow Jesus as a vehicle of divine love,
a source of wisdom and truth,
and an instrument of peace in the world.
We believe in the Spirit of the Holy One,
the life that is our innermost life,
the breath moving in our being,
the depth living in each of us.
We believe that the Divine kin-dom is here and now, stretched out all around us for those with eyes to see it, hearts to receive it, and hands to make it happen.
Prayer of the Faithful: Margaret
For a deeper coming of Christ in our world that we experience through the birthing of God anew in our lives, we bring to the table our prayers.
We awaken to your call! For whom and for what shall we pray?
Karen: Closing: Divine Creator of All, you dwell in every creature. We know you hear our prayers and continually pour out your mercy and grace. Through our prayers
we are reminded that we are always enveloped in your love and compassion.
Strengthen our faith as you work through us to co-create your ever-expanding Kin-dom. Amen
Sign of Peace: Dave
As we prepare this sacred meal, we reaffirm that, just as Jesus was anointed, so is each of us. And so, we celebrate our Creator’s fruitful love as we extend our blessing to one another with joy. May the peace that our brother Jesus offers be always with us! Please offer each other the sign of peace.
Lift up your bread and wine during the following prayer.
Linda: Blessed are you, God of all Creation, Earth, and the Universe. This bread we offer is our spiritual evolution into the heart of Christ. May this bread become spiritual nourishment for our journey.
Blessed are you, God of all Creation, Earth, and the Universe. This wine is our desire to make co-creator choices in our own lives and for humanity. May we grow in faith, hope, and love by following the way of Jesus Christ, our wise elder brother.
Grateful for your covenant with us, which extends to us the heritage of light and life and love, we gather in hopeful openness, joined with all living creatures.
Prayer over the Gifts
John: God, take our hands; take our lives,
Take these simple gifts we bring, that we might share in a common desire to help prepare the feast for all your people. We ask this through Jesus the Christ. Amen
(adapted from All Desires Known – Janet Morley p. 137)
Eucharistic Prayer:
Presider: God is with you. R: And also with you.
Presider: Lift up your hearts. R: We lift our hearts to God and to one another.
Presider: Let us give thanks to our God. R: It is good to give God thanks and praise.
Penny: Holy One, through your all-inclusive spirit of kinship, you call us into a vision of a Beloved Community.
We gather together to give you thanks and praise.
You are the one God, living and true, from the beginning of all time and throughout all eternity.
Karla: God, you are the source of life and goodness. You fill your creatures with every blessing. You lead your people throughout the world to the transforming vision of your love. May we be strengthened to build communities of justice, peace, and inclusivity in our church and in our world. For this we are always grateful and we place our hope and trust in you.

Pattie: As a community, we gather in the power of your Spirit, refreshing wind, luminous wildfire and living breath. We seek to live “rich in God” as Jesus taught us to do. May we ever remain Spirit-filled people, seeking the light, striving to be courageous and prophetic and ever observant of your design for us.
Please extend your hands in blessing.
Juanita: We are grateful for the bread and wine and those who carefully tended the grapes and wheat that remind us of our call to be Your Presence in the world.
We are ever aware of your Spirit in us and among us. We invoke your Spirit anew upon these simple gifts of bread and wine, that they that they may become for us the + Body and Blood of Christ.
Nick: On the night before he faced the betrayal of friends and his death, Jesus sat at supper with companions and friends. He reminded them of all that he taught them over their years together. To fix that memory clearly with them, he bent down and humbly washed their feet.
Lift up your bread
When Jesus returned to his place at the table, he lifted the bread, spoke the blessing, broke the bread and offered it to them saying:
ALL: Take and eat, This is my Body, go and love one another.
All lift cups
Then he took the cup of the covenant, spoke the grace, and offered it to them saying:
ALL: Take and drink. This is the covenant of my blood
Whenever you remember me like this,
I am among you.
Penny: Through Christ, with Christ and in Christ,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, One God of all! May glory and honor be yours,
forever and ever. Amen
Bread and wine is transformed by Your Spirit and we are transformed when we open ourselves to Your Spirit. Every time we share this bread and wine we choose to be transformed. We choose to love as You love us.
Karla: We share this bread and cup to proclaim the gospel of justice and peace. Share the bread with the words: You are a messenger of light.

unfolding from the depths within us.

the empowerment around us,
and the celebration among us,
now and forever, Amen by Miriam Therese Winter
Please extend your hands and pray our blessing together.
